Mantle is taking aim at one of DeFi’s most annoying realities: the same asset is everywhere, but never in the form you need. On January 20, Mantle announced a collaboration with Everclear that brings Cross-Chain Asset Settlement to the ecosystem. The integration lets users swap wETH from Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, or Polygon directly into mETH on Mantle—without the usual bridge hop, manual routing, or “wrong representation” friction that still slows onboarding across multi-chain markets.

What did Mantle and Everclear actually launch?
The launch introduces a new settlement layer that abstracts away the bridging process for users. Instead of manually moving wETH across chains, users can choose Mantle as the destination and receive mETH on Mantle as the output—typically in under one minute. Behind the scenes, Everclear handles the heavy lifting: filling user intents immediately and then netting and rebalancing cross-chain flows after the fact. The goal is to make cross-chain movement feel closer to a normal swap than a multi-step migration. The integration targets a problem that becomes more painful as ecosystems scale: liquidity fragmentation. ETH alone now shows up across chains and protocols as wETH, stETH, mETH and more, while USD liquidity is split across an expanding list of stablecoins. Each representation creates pockets of liquidity that don’t naturally talk to each other, which increases inefficiency and adds cost.

Why liquidity fragmentation matters for DeFi adoption
Fragmentation is not just a technical issue. It’s a capital problem. When liquidity is split across multiple chains and wrappers, the system ends up over-collateralized and under-efficient. Users hold assets in one place while opportunities live somewhere else. Protocols duplicate incentives to pull liquidity into the right pool. Bridges add time, risk, and complexity. Even sophisticated users end up wasting gas and attention moving between the same asset in different skins. Everclear’s approach is to treat cross-chain flow more like clearing infrastructure. Its settlement system nets flows across chains and automatically rebalances inventory, aiming to reduce redundant liquidity and lower the total cost of moving capital between ecosystems. Mantle advisor Emily Bao framed the integration as an “institutional-grade” way to reduce onboarding friction, reinforcing Mantle’s RWA and ETH-native strategy by making it easier for assets to enter the ecosystem at scale.

If cross-chain settlement becomes “invisible,” it changes where capital sits. The best ecosystems won’t just offer yield — they’ll offer the lowest-friction path for liquidity to arrive.

How fast settlement works: wETH to mETH in under a minute
The user experience is designed to be simple: hold wETH on a supported chain, select Mantle as the destination, and receive mETH on Mantle through a single transaction. Everclear says its solver infrastructure fills the trade immediately, while netting and rebalancing happens in the background to restore inventory at the lowest possible cost. The claimed outcome is faster execution, better pricing, and reduced slippage compared with typical cross-chain routes that depend on multiple swaps and liquidity pools. Nikita Bulgakov from Everclear Foundation described the product vision as a settlement layer for a “fragmented, multi-asset future,” with the goal of connecting different representations of the same asset and delivering a chain-abstracted experience where users stop thinking about bridges altogether.

What this unlocks for Mantle next
This launch starts with mETH, but the bigger ambition is broader. Mantle is the first launch partner for Everclear’s expanded cross-asset settlement initiative, with plans to expand support to more ETH-based assets, stablecoins, and additional chains over time. For Mantle, the benefit isn’t just convenience. It’s liquidity strategy. Making it easier to move capital into Mantle improves the odds that users actually deploy assets inside its ecosystem rather than stopping at the bridge step or leaving funds parked on L1. The collaboration also fits into a wider market shift toward chain abstraction—the idea that users should interact with applications and assets without managing bridges, liquidity pools, or chain-specific wrappers. If that model works, the competitive edge moves from “what chain are you on?” to “how quickly can you get in, and how efficiently can you move size once you’re there?”

Mantle is betting that settlement efficiency becomes a moat. If Everclear’s netting reduces cost and friction, it can support higher TVL stickiness and better capital velocity.

Mantle positions itself as a distribution and liquidity layer connecting TradFi, RWAs and on-chain markets, with more than $4 billion in community-owned assets and ecosystem projects including mETH, fBTC, and MI4. With Everclear now handling cross-chain settlement flows into mETH, the network is making a straightforward pitch: if users already hold wETH elsewhere, getting into Mantle should no longer feel like a separate workflow.
