South Korea's Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) has requested X to take measures against the spread of harmful Grok-generated deepfakes, especially targeting minors.

The KMCC demands social platforms to designate protection officials for minors and submit annual reports, with non-compliance risking penalties. The effort aims to prevent illegal deepfake content and enhance technology safety.

The response to KMCC's call raises questions about X's compliance with new regulations. The lack of comments from X's leadership leaves the broader cryptocurrency impact unclear.

Experts speculate on the regulatory shift, although financial and technological changes remain speculative. Historical data does not show any immediate impact on major coins like ETH or BTC.

This initiative follows the 2024 deepfake crisis when thousands were affected, prompting stricter laws. South Korea has previously increased penalties in response to deepfake proliferation.

Experts, including Mijeong Kang from Save the Children, emphasize the urgent need for better policies. The call for action mirrors past endeavors to protect children's digital rights.

“When videos or images are posted without a child’s consent it can spread like wildfire and the suffering that these children endure carries over long into adulthood. We need to do better in order to support our children’s right to digital self-determination. The digital footprints left by the exploitation of children for criminal purposes can have devastating, long-lasting effects. We must act urgently to improve our policies, ensuring the rapid removal of these harmful digital records. This swift action is crucial not only for the immediate protection of vulnerable children but also to safeguard their future well-being and right to digital autonomy.” — Mijeong Kang, Director, Advocacy Department, Save the Children Korea Source
