Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan confirmed this week that crypto markets face three critical checkpoints before reaching new all-time highs in 2026. The checkpoints include post-October liquidation stability, passage of the CLARITY Act, and steady equity markets. Hougan noted that crypto has gained $170 billion since the start of the year, pushing total market capitalization to $3.3 trillion. As a result, traders are hunting for the best altcoins to buy with the potential to 100x in January. DeepSnitch AI leads the pack, having raised over $1.1 million at $0.03401 in Stage 4. Its launch is just weeks away, causing floods of early buyers to position now.

Second, the US Senate must pass the CLARITY Act, currently targeting January 15 for markup. Hougan called the passage "key to the long-term future of crypto in the US." Third, broader equity markets must remain stable. Markets have gained $170 billion since January 1, pushing total capitalization to $3.3 trillion. This momentum is driving traders toward altcoins with strong momentum positioned to benefit from regulatory clarity. Here are the three best altcoins to buy in January 2026:

1. DeepSnitch AI (DSNT): Presale token jumps 120% as January launch date looms
There are two reasons most retail traders lose money in the crypto markets. One, they move too late, after the rest of the market has moved. Or two, they buy scammy tokens rigged with liquidity traps or sketchy ownership. DeepSnitch AI aims to solve both problems using a bundle of five AI agents that hands traders an edge over the market. The latest development update introduces AuditSnitch, a contract auditing tool that delivers plain verdicts: CLEAN, CAUTION, or SKETCHY. You paste a token address and get immediate results on ownership control, liquidity locks, and known exploit patterns. This turns do-your-own-research into a simple checklist that helps you avoid buying into traps before you lose money. The presale has raised over $1.1 million at $0.03401 in Stage 4, up 120% from its inital offering.
2. aelf: Growth-focused token surges 65% in seven days
Aelf jumped 65% over the past seven days, trading around $0.111 on January 11th. The token posted a 24% gain in the last week, with daily trading volume pushing past $11 million. The rally follows increased attention to AI-enhanced Layer 1 blockchain networks as traders position for infrastructure plays ahead of potential CLARITY Act passage. Despite the recent pump, aelf remains 95% below its all-time high of $2.60 set in January 2018. The token’s market cap is $91 million and its fully diluted valuation is $111 million. At current valuation, aelf’s potential to 10x is constrained compared to presale tokens like DeepSnitch AI, which is priced at $0.03401 and a launch any day now.
3. PAAL AI: Hot contender for best altcoin to buy jumps 152% in seven days on autonomous trading agent launch
PAAL AI surged 54% over the past seven days, trading around $0.027 on January 11th. The rally follows the launch of Quant X, an autonomous trading agent integrated into the Paal X decentralized exchange. Despite the momentum, PAAL AI remains 96% below its all-time high of $0.8598 set in March 2024. The token carries a market cap of $27.3 million with a fully diluted valuation of $30.4 million. PAAS’s current valuation unfortunately does limit its upside potential, especially compared to presale projects like DeepSnitch AI.

What’s the verdict?
Aelf and PAAL AI already have solid liquidity, but at their current valuations, a true 10x move is realistically off the table, especially compared to presale projects like DeepSnitch AI. With the token priced at $0.03401 in Stage 4 of its presale and a public launch less than three weeks away, early positioning is still possible before the rest of the market catches on. The team is also rumored to be preparing a significant announcement in the days ahead, one that could rapidly change market sentiment. Visit the official website for more information, and join X and Telegram for community updates.
