Jungle Inc, a respected voice in crypto journalism, recently highlighted remarks from Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson that present the current state of the industry as a turning point.
The message reflects growing frustration across the sector, where repeated failures and short-lived trends have weakened confidence. Rather than promoting another cycle of speculation, Hoskinson’s comments point toward the need for an industry built on credibility, purpose, and lasting value.

Charles Hoskinson declared the 3rd generation of crypto dead. Everyone’s tired of beings rugged and scammed.

The End of the Third Generation

According to the video shared in Jungle Inc’s post, Hoskinson argues that what he calls the third generation of cryptocurrency has reached its limit. He describes an ecosystem worn down by scandals, rug pulls, and waves of hype that deliver little in terms of real progress.
Memecoin and NFT booms are presented as examples of how attention has shifted away from meaningful development toward quick gains. In his view, this pattern has left builders and users disillusioned, with many no longer associating themselves with the sector.
Hoskinson suggests that the damage goes beyond market losses. He stresses that people working in crypto want to be able to speak about their work with confidence and respect, particularly in their personal lives, something he believes has become increasingly difficult.

A Fourth Generation Built on Privacy and Cooperation

Hoskinson’s response to this crisis is what he describes as the fourth generation of crypto. At the center of this vision is Midnight, a platform designed to support rational privacy, selective disclosure, and cooperation across networks. As presented by Jungle Inc, this approach aims to balance decentralization with practical compliance, allowing users and institutions to interact without sacrificing fundamental freedoms.
He portrays this shift as necessary to reunite fragmented markets and bring large numbers of new participants into the ecosystem. The focus is on building systems that can function at scale, remain resilient, and serve real economic and social needs rather than speculative trends.

Rejecting Hype and Demanding Integrity

Another key theme in Hoskinson’s remarks is his rejection of what he sees as a culture driven by hype and value extraction. He criticizes the constant creation of new tokens tied to internet trends, arguing that such behavior rewards short-term profit at the expense of trust. He also speaks against corruption, favoritism, and misleading practices, stating clearly that he has no interest in remaining in an industry that tolerates these behaviors.
His message, as reported by Jungle Inc, is that crypto must become something real and meaningful, or risk losing the builders who are capable of delivering long-term progress.

Positioning for a More Serious Industry

Hoskinson also points to Cardano’s market standing relative to other privacy-focused projects, presenting it as evidence that commitment to substance is being recognized. He argues that experience and consistency matter in a period when confidence is fragile and credibility is in short supply.
Supporting this broader view, a user, Nathaniel Evans, comments that the breakdown of trust in crypto resembles what has already happened in parts of US fintech, where regulation, shrinking funding, and layoffs caused a shift toward more transparent and practical innovation. His observation reinforces the idea that only projects grounded in real utility are likely to survive.
Through Jungle Inc’s reporting, Hoskinson’s message comes across as a direct call for reform. It emphasizes that the future of crypto will depend not on the next trend, but on whether the industry can rebuild respect through integrity, cooperation, and work that delivers real-world results.
