SEI has been flashing strong signals lately, at least at first glance. Usage is climbing, activity keeps setting new records, and the network feels busy in a way many Layer 1s would envy. A closer look at the latest State of Sei Q3 2025 report from Messari, highlighted by analyst Fabius DeFi, shows a more nuanced picture. Growth is real, momentum is visible, yet one key metric continues to lag behind the rest.

Daily activity on Sei has reached levels that stand out even in a crowded market. According to Fabius DeFi, daily active addresses jumped by 93.5% quarter over quarter, reaching 824K. Transactions by active addresses climbed 87.1% to roughly 2M per day. Five consecutive quarters of growth point to something more durable than a short-lived spike.

SEI price action often draws attention first, yet usage trends tell a deeper story. Sei has focused on speed and distribution, and the numbers reflect that strategy. Users are not just showing up, they are interacting more frequently, which suggests habits are forming rather than fleeting experimentation.

SEI Price Narrative Gets Complicated When TVL Enters The Picture

Surface level metrics look bullish, though capital tells a different story. Total value locked dropped 25% quarter over quarter to $455.6M. Stablecoin outflows followed the same direction, reinforcing the idea that capital on Sei remains sensitive to broader market cycles.

Sei price discussions often assume usage and capital move together, though this quarter challenges that assumption. Trading activity increased even as TVL compressed. Average DEX spot volume rose 75% to about $43M per day, showing traders are active without committing long term liquidity. This gap between activity and capital stickiness remains the core tension in the Sei story.

Gaming On Sei Is Emerging As A Powerful Traffic Engine

Gaming has quietly become one of the strongest drivers of onchain activity. Fabius DeFi points to 116M gaming transactions and a sharp rise in gaming related daily active addresses. These numbers suggest Sei is building usage first, allowing users to form habits before capital fully follows.

This approach differs from incentive heavy DeFi cycles that pull liquidity quickly and lose it just as fast. Gaming activity creates repetition and familiarity, which may explain why Sei continues to grow transaction counts even during periods of capital outflow.

DeFi activity remains important, though the landscape is shifting. YeiFinance continues as the largest protocol by TVL despite a 41.7% decline. TakaraLend moved in the opposite direction, growing 48.4%, largely driven by points and incentive programs.

Fabius DeFi frames this as a selection phase. Incentives can attract liquidity temporarily, yet retention after rewards fade determines which protocols matter long term. SEI price narratives tied to DeFi strength may depend less on headline TVL and more on which applications keep users engaged without constant subsidies.

Liquid Staking Competition Signals A Shift In User Preferences On Sei

Liquid staking has become increasingly competitive. spSEI overtaking iSEI highlights a preference shift toward better user experience and instant redemption. Ease of exit often matters more than yield alone, especially during uncertain market conditions.

This change hints at maturing behavior across the ecosystem. Users appear to value flexibility, which could support more stable participation over time if confidence continues to build.

SEI Token Dynamics Are Quietly Improving Beneath The Surface

Token mechanics show one of the more constructive developments. Monthly unlock and vesting pressure fell from 219.7M SEI to 113M SEI. Staking APY climbed to around 6%, creating positive real yield for two consecutive quarters.

Lower sell pressure combined with higher staking returns often creates space for longer term narratives to develop. Fabius DeFi notes that these conditions support infrastructure building rather than short term speculation, which may matter more than price moves during early phases of network expansion.

The broader thesis remains unchanged. Giga upgrades, next generation CLOBs, and AI focused applications form the backbone of Sei’s roadmap into 2026. Execution now hinges on converting traffic into stablecoin liquidity and eventually into sticky TVL.

SEI price may continue to reflect this tension between visible usage and cautious capital. The network already moves fast and attracts activity. The next chapter depends on whether that activity settles into durable economic weight. Watching how Sei bridges that gap could reveal where the story heads next.
