The first week of December is in the books, and if the options flows on PowerTrade are any indication, the “Smart Money” isn’t just hoping for a Santa Rally — they are aggressively positioning for one.
With the FOMC meeting kicking off today and the highly anticipated Solana Breakpoint conference just around the corner, volatility is no longer a possibility; it’s a guarantee.
We analyzed thousands of trades from last week (Dec 1 — Dec 7) to decode the sentiment, key levels, and whale behavior. Here is what the data says about where the market is heading.

1. Market Sentiment: Unapologetically Bullish 🐂

Despite the chop in spot prices, the derivatives market is flashing green.
When we look at the total value traded on PowerTrade last week, the bias is undeniable., 72% of options OI was on calls. While retail traders bought a higher quantity of Put options (likely hedging smaller portfolio downsides), the institutional-sized volume flowed heavily into Calls.
The takeaway? The heavy hitters are betting on upside. They aren’t scared of the Fed; they are front-running the potential dovish pivot.

2. Bitcoin: The Battle for $90k and the $200k Moonshot

Bitcoin ($BTC) dominated the flows, accounting for the vast majority of volume. But the structure of these trades is what matters.
The Battleground: $90,000 — $96,000 Our data highlights massive volume clusters around the $90,000 and $96,000 strikes.

$90k Strike: This is acting as the psychological “line in the sand.” Whales are defending this level aggressively.

$96k Strike: This is the breakout trigger.

The “Moonshot” Bet 🚀 Here is where it gets interesting. Amidst the logical trading, we spotted massive outlier trades: December 26 Expiry Calls with a $200,000 Strike Price.
Someone is betting millions that Bitcoin won’t just break ATH — it will double in the next three weeks. Is this inside knowledge or pure degen gambling? Either way, these far-OTM (Out of The Money) calls are the ultimate leverage play on a year-end melt-up.

3. Solana & The “Alt” Awakening

Bitcoin isn’t the only game in town. With Solana Breakpoint starting Dec 11th in Abu Dhabi, $SOL flows have been heating up.
Key Levels to Watch for SOL:

Support: $138 — $139. We saw significant volume accumulating here, suggesting strong buy support.

Resistance/Target: $146+. Traders are positioning for a breakout above this level during the conference hype.

The Degen Corner: We also saw a spike in high-IV plays on assets like $FARTCOIN and $PUMP. When traders start buying options on meme coins, it signals that risk appetite is returning to the furthest ends of the risk curve.

4. The Macro Storm: FOMC & The “Santa Rally” 🎅

Why is this week so critical?

Today/Tomorrow (Dec 9–10): The Fed decides on interest rates. The market has priced in a 25bps cut. If Powell delivers, those $90k BTC calls could go deep ITM (In The Money) instantly.

Dec 11–13: Solana Breakpoint. Expect announcements that could serve as idiosyncratic catalysts for the SOL ecosystem.

What to Expect: Expect Volatility Crushes. If the events pass without disaster, Implied Volatility (IV) will drop, making long options positions cheaper but hurting those who bought the absolute top of the premium.

5. Strategy: Why Trade Options Now?

In a market driven by binary events (Fed decisions, Conferences), trading Spot (just buying the coin) exposes you to unlimited downside if things go wrong.
Options offer a distinct advantage:

Defined Risk: Buying a Call option limits your loss to the premium paid, even if BTC crashes to $80k.

Leverage: You control 1 Bitcoin for a fraction of the price.

Income: Neutral on the market? Selling puts at the $85k level allows you to collect premium while waiting to buy the dip.

Final Thoughts

The data from PowerTrade suggests that the market is coiled like a spring. The whales have placed their bets at $90k and beyond.
As we head into the second half of December, liquidity is thinning out, which means moves will be explosive. Whether you are hedging your HODL stack or chasing that $200k candle, make sure you’re trading with the right tools.
Ready to trade the flows? Don’t just watch the candles paint; trade the volatility.
