JPMorgan Chase & Co. has moved to expand its crypto-linked investment offerings, filing regulatory documents for a new series of structured notes tied to the performance of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
The filing, submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, marks one of the most direct Bitcoin-linked investment products ever issued by a major U.S. bank.
The structured notes will not hold Bitcoin themselves. Instead, investor returns will be linked to the price performance of IBIT, the world’s largest spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund, which has rapidly become the dominant regulated vehicle for institutional exposure to Bitcoin.
According to the offering documents, the notes allow investors to participate in Bitcoin upside through IBIT, with some versions offering leveraged returns, up to 1.5 times the gains of the ETF, if certain price conditions are met.
Other variations of the notes offer fixed payouts, including yields of around 16%, provided IBIT stays within defined price ranges during the term.
The notes also include features such as downside protection buffers, but they remain unsecured debt obligations of a JPMorgan finance subsidiary, guaranteed by JPMorgan Chase & Co. itself. As such, investors face both Bitcoin price volatility and issuer credit risk.
The filings highlight how Wall Street institutions increasingly rely on ETFs, not direct crypto, for offering exposure to digital assets. Since the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, IBIT has attracted billions in inflows from pensions, wealth managers, hedge funds, and advisory platforms.
JPMorgan’s structured notes represent the latest step in translating Bitcoin ETF performance into traditional financial products familiar to mainstream investors.
Market analysts say the move reflects growing demand for regulated Bitcoin-linked yield products, particularly among customers who cannot hold crypto directly due to compliance or custodial restrictions.
It also underscores how BlackRock’s IBIT has become an industry benchmark, with banks and asset managers now designing derivative instruments around the ETF.
The notes are currently awaiting effectiveness, and JPMorgan has not yet announced a launch date. Their approval would mark one of the first times a major U.S. bank has offered structured notes explicitly tied to the performance of a spot Bitcoin ETF.
