Coinbase officially announced on November 10, 2025, the launch of its ICO platform, debuting with the Monad project, marking a strategic move away from airdrops in cryptocurrency fundraising.
This shift signifies a regulatory adaptation with enhanced transparency, impacting market preferences and aligning fundraising processes for sustainable and decentralized growth.
Coinbase has launched its official ICO platform, introducing the first project, Monad, a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain. This marks a shift from airdrops due to regulatory adaptation and changing market preferences for transparent fundraising methods. "Coinbase aims to set a new industry benchmark by providing projects with a more sustainable, transparent, and decentralized method for token distribution," said Brian Armstrong, Founder/CEO, Coinbase.
Monad is led by co-founders Keone Hon, James Hunsaker, and Eunice Giarta. The project's focus is on scaling EVM-compatible blockchains. Users must verify their identity and use USDC for participation, aligning the process with compliant standards.
Immediate effects include a likely impact on industry token distribution trends. While airdrops have been prone to immediate liquidation, the ICO model with delayed unlocks significantly reduces such volatility, ensuring more sustainable token value retention.
The introduction of ICOs by Coinbase could reshape financial interactions within cryptocurrency markets. The focus on compliance aims to attract institutional involvement while mitigating the issues associated with previous unsupervised ICO cycles.

The regulatory landscape is likely to adapt as Coinbase's model gains traction. This sets a potential benchmark, encouraging global adoption of ICO practices under stringent oversight, enhancing trust among investors.

Future implications suggest a controlled environment might emerge, where compliant fundraising supports more predictable market behavior. Historical ICO failures underline the necessity of controls, which Coinbase addresses with its structured release and vesting schedules. Read original article on marketbit.io
