<h2 id="how-walrus-wal-works">HOW WALRUS (WAL) WORKS</h2>
&nbsp;
Walrus integrates closely with the Sui blockchain and operates under a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism for governance and network management. Its design ensures secure, efficient, and verifiable decentralized data storage — offering developers a programmable and cost-effective alternative to traditional systems.
&nbsp;
<h3 id="integration-with-sui">✅ Integration with Sui</h3>
&nbsp;
The integration with Sui allows Walrus to anchor any stored data to blockchain-based objects, making it verifiable, trackable, and accessible through decentralized pathways. Developers can interact with Walrus via on-chain queries, SDKs, or HTTP APIs, enabling flexible and scalable implementation.
&nbsp;
This tight coupling ensures that developers can build seamlessly on Walrus, while benefiting from the economic efficiency and composability of the Sui ecosystem.
<h3 id="dual-token-system">✅ Dual-Token System</h3>
&nbsp;
Walrus utilizes a dual-token architecture composed of WAL and FROST tokens to manage its ecosystem.
&nbsp;
<ul>
 <li style="font-weight: 400;">WAL tokens serve multiple purposes across the ecosystem, including paying for storage services and rewarding node operators. </li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
<ul>
 <li style="font-weight: 400;">For every WAL token, there exists a proportional number of FROST sub-tokens (1 WAL = 10 billion FROST), which handle granular accounting and delegation at the validator level. </li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
This design encourages high network availability and reliability — storage node operators who hold significant token stakes participate as storage validators and are entrusted with maintaining data integrity and uptime.
<h3 id="breakthrough-erasure-coding-system">✅ Breakthrough Erasure Coding System</h3>
&nbsp;
Unlike conventional replication-based distributed storage systems, Walrus employs a novel erasure coding mechanism called Red Stuff.
 This system uses two-dimensional (2D) erasure coding, breaking large datasets into smaller fragments that are then distributed across the storage network.
&nbsp;
The key advantage of Red Stuff lies in its efficiency: it achieves the same fault tolerance as traditional replication systems (typically 4–5× redundancy) but with far less data overhead and lower operational costs.
 Even if several storage nodes fail simultaneously, the system can still reconstruct the original dataset accurately — offering robust resilience without the heavy redundancy burden.

WAL is the native utility token of the Walrus protocol, built on the Sui blockchain. It plays a critical role in maintaining the network’s operations, governance, and economic sustainability. With a maximum supply of 5 billion tokens, WAL follows a deflationary model, where token supply gradually decreases through a burn mechanism to support long-term value stability.
<h3 id="core-utilities-of-wal">📌 Core Utilities of WAL</h3>
&nbsp;
➤ Payment
WAL functions as the primary payment token for data storage within the Walrus network.
 Users can prepay for storage services, and over time, the corresponding WAL is distributed to storage nodes and stakers as rewards for maintaining the system’s integrity and uptime.
&nbsp;
➤ Security
The WAL token underpins the network’s Proof-of-Stake (PoS) security model.
 Node operators are required to stake WAL to participate in data storage and network management. Users may also delegate their WAL to trusted nodes to help secure the network and earn staking rewards.
 To ensure fairness and reliability, underperforming nodes are subject to slashing penalties.
&nbsp;
➤Governance
Holders of WAL have the right to participate in protocol governance, voting on key parameters such as pricing models, reward mechanisms, and protocol upgrades.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
This ensures that the Walrus ecosystem evolves through community consensus and decentralized decision-making.

&nbsp;
The total supply of WAL is 5 billion tokens, with allocations designed to ensure balanced ecosystem growth, long-term sustainability, and fair community participation.
&nbsp;
A total of 10% of the supply is dedicated to user incentives, which includes an initial 4% airdrop during mainnet launch and an additional 6% reserved for future distributions. The remaining tokens are allocated toward development, ecosystem support, and liquidity incentives to foster continuous growth.
