Launchpad

Monad

Coinbase launched a token-sale platform that opens public token offerings to users — including U.S. retail investors — for the first time since 2018. The first sale features Monad, a high-performance, EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain.
According to Coinbase, the platform helps projects reach real users and build organic liquidity at launch.

Distribution Approach

Coinbase says current token-launch models struggle to distribute tokens fairly and achieve deep liquidity. The company positions its new platform as a more transparent and sustainable way for teams to launch tokens.

“We are launching an end-to-end token sales platform to set a new standard… US retail traders can now widely participate in public token sales for the first time since 2018.”

Allocation Method

The platform uses a “fill-from-the-bottom” model. Smaller buyers receive priority. Requests for larger allocations receive partial fills until supply runs out.
This approach aims to limit whale dominance and broaden distribution.
Coinbase also rewards holders. Users who sell within 30 days may receive smaller allocations in future sales, encouraging long-term participation instead of quick flips. The exchange will list only one token sale per month.
Monad’s pre-market price briefly fell after the announcement. Some investors questioned whether prioritizing smaller allocations could impact market dynamics or early liquidity.

Competitive Landscape

Launchpads continue to expand across Web 3, with decentralized platforms attracting users through broader access and early-stage opportunities. Coinbase’s arrival introduces a major regulated player to the segment and may reshape how token sales operate in a compliant market environment.
Analysts note that U.S. retail access represents a major shift and may reopen a market that has remained largely closed since the 2018 ICO cycle.
