Elon Musk is set to launch X Chat, a new encrypted messaging platform aimed at safeguarding user privacy. Positioned as a competitor to WhatsApp and Telegram, it promises complete end-to-end encryption and the absence of advertisements.
Musk, CEO of X, emphasized the need for privacy, explaining that X Chat encryption is comparable to Bitcoin to reduce data breach exposure. The app intends to replace the traditional X DM stack, promoting user security. Musk stated, "Our goal is to replace the old Twitter DM stack with a fully encrypted system. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it’ll be the least insecure messaging app out there." - source
The introduction of X Chat could reshape the messaging landscape, affecting existing platforms currently used by millions. While no official funding details have been disclosed, plans include integrating X Chat into the broader X ecosystem, enabling potential cryptocurrency functionalities and contributing to a comprehensive "everything app."
No immediate on-chain activities related to X Chat have been observed. However, future integrations of peer-to-peer payments, subscriptions, or NFTs may boost Bitcoin network activity. This underscores Musk’s ambition to innovate the traditional messaging domain.
Various privacy-centric apps like Telegram have integrated crypto wallets leading to heightened user engagement. X Chat's adoption of novel encryption methods could potentially set new standards in secure communications. Musk once tweeted about innovation and technology:
