CZ addresses the Binance listing fee controversy after CJ’s viral allegations, rejecting claims of pay-to-list practices and reaffirming Binance’s commitment to transparency and integrity.

THE CONTROVERSY EMERGES

Over the past few days, the crypto community has been caught in one of the most heated debates of the year — the alleged Binance listing fee controversy.

The issue began when CJ, founder of Limitless, published what he claimed were internal Binance documents outlining supposed fees and token requirements for listings. His posts quickly went viral on X, igniting a wave of outrage, confusion, and speculation across the entire crypto industry.

Brief Summary:

Listing on Alpha involves a 4% airdrop, 1% marketing, and over 1 million USD in on-chain liquidity.

A 250k USD security deposit is required before listing.

Spot listing requires a 3% token distribution to BNB holders, a 200,000 USD token marketing fee, and a $2 million USD BNB security deposit on Binance.

BINANCE’S OFFICIAL RESPONSE

Binance wasted no time responding.

The exchange issued an official statement rejecting CJ’s claims as false and misleading, insisting that Binance does not charge any listing fees. Instead, it explained that the so-called “fees” were refundable security deposits meant to ensure that projects maintain operational standards and fulfill post-listing commitments. Binance also stressed that listing decisions are based on a project’s technical strength, community support, and compliance — not payments or influence.

CZ TAKES THE STAGE

As the online debate intensified, CZ, Binance’s former CEO and symbolic figurehead, personally entered the discussion.

He publicly denied the accusations, emphasizing that Binance has never turned listings into a pay-to-play system. The confrontation escalated when CZ blocked CJ on X, sparking even more discussion. Some interpreted this as frustration over misinformation, while others saw it as a defensive move that only amplified curiosity. CJ, meanwhile, stood by his story, claiming that what he revealed was “industry truth” — an accusation that deepened the divide between centralized exchange supporters and critics.

CZ’S OCTOBER 15 STATEMENT

Then, on October 15, 2025, CZ published a decisive post addressing the matter directly. He stated that “Exchanges should never become fee machines.”

CZ tweeted about the issue of listing fees. He stated that if projects complain about airdrops or fees, they can choose not to pay them.

He pointed out that strong projects will be eager to list, but projects that need to beg exchanges for listing should reflect on their own value.

He also suggested that competing exchanges set listing fees to zero, emphasizing that in a decentralized world, companies have the freedom to choose their business models and should prioritize user experience.

He also mentioned that PancakeSwap has no listing fees and enjoys healthy trading volume. He summarized the different listing models used by exchanges, including full listing, selective listing, and user airdrops, noting that these models are not black and white, and that many exchanges employ a combination of these models.

A BROADER INDUSTRY REFLECTION

This statement marked a turning point. It wasn’t just a rebuttal; it was an attempt to reshape the conversation around trust and ethics in crypto. Listing transparency has always been a delicate subject. While DeFi offers permissionless token launches, centralized exchanges still hold power over liquidity and visibility — meaning that a single listing can dramatically alter a project’s valuation and community momentum. In this environment, even unverified rumors about listing costs can ripple across markets, influencing sentiment and trader confidence.

BEYOND BINANCE: INDUSTRY COMPLEXITIES

However, the broader reality is complex. Critics argue that while Binance may reject “listing fees,” many exchanges still engage in opaque practices through market-making deals, promotional token allocations, or liquidity incentives that indirectly resemble paid listings. CZ’s statement, therefore, represents an idealistic stance in an imperfect ecosystem — a reminder that even the largest players must continually navigate the fine line between business pragmatism and ethical responsibility.

Yet, there is no denying that Binance’s communication strategy has evolved. Instead of dismissing the allegations with silence, the company has taken a firm and transparent tone. By addressing the controversy head-on, CZ reinforced the exchange’s long-term message: that credibility, not cash flow, defines leadership in crypto. This approach may not convince every critic, but it demonstrates confidence — and a willingness to uphold reputational integrity amid public scrutiny.

TRUST, TRANSPARENCY, AND THE ROAD AHEAD

Ultimately, this episode exposes both the promise and fragility of crypto’s maturing infrastructure. Transparency remains the industry’s loudest demand but also its hardest challenge. CJ’s claims — whether exaggerated or partially true — have reignited a crucial conversation about fairness, accountability, and governance in Web3’s centralized layers.

In the end, CZ’s response did more than defend Binance; it reframed the debate around trust and transparency in the digital asset space. And while controversies will inevitably resurface, the takeaway is clear: in crypto, where perception drives value, the fight for integrity is as important as the technology itself.
