A special soulbound token is now live for claim, designed to bring players and collectors closer to both communities. This claim follows a snapshot taken on September 19 at 10:00 UTC and is open to holders of Moonbirds, Oddities, Mythics, Ethernals, and to active Anichess players from Seasons 1 through 4.

For those unfamiliar, a soulbound token is a digital badge that cannot be traded or transferred. Instead, it acts as a permanent marker of participation or achievement. In this case, it represents involvement in the growing overlap between gaming and digital collectibles. Claiming requires a small amount of ETH for gas fees, but the token itself is free for those eligible.

What Soulbound Tokens Mean for Web3 Communities

Soulbound tokens have gained attention in recent years because they serve a purpose beyond speculation. Unlike regular NFTs, which can be bought and sold, soulbound tokens are locked to the wallet that claims them. That makes them ideal for use cases such as membership proof, event access, or achievement tracking.

The Anichess x Moonbirds token is a way to reward early supporters while also creating a digital record of community participation. Similar experiments have popped up across the industry. For example, Polygon partnered with Starbucks to release soulbound-style stamps in its Odyssey program, giving coffee lovers proof of unique experiences. These tokens enhance engagement by providing holders with something that feels earned rather than purchased.
A soulbound token is now available to claim, marking the Anichess + Moonbirds partnership.

This trend is catching on because Web3 communities are looking for ways to stand out. Data from Messari shows NFT projects that focus on community utility—like token-gated events and loyalty rewards—maintain stronger engagement compared to purely speculative drops. The rise of soulbound tokens points to a future where NFTs can function more like digital ID cards than just collectibles.
