The cryptocurrency market is a dynamic landscape, constantly influenced by various events. One such significant event that often captures the attention of investors and traders alike is token unlocks.
What Are This Week’s Major Token Unlocks?

According to data compiled by Tokenomist, the crypto community is bracing for a series of significant token unlocks. These events involve the release of tokens that were previously restricted, often held by early investors, team members, or advisors, and are now becoming available for trading. This increase in circulating supply can, in turn, influence market dynamics. Here’s a quick look at the key releases:

Sept. 22: MBG – 15.84 million tokens ($17.9 million), representing 13.6% of circulating supply, unlock at 12:00 p.m. UTC.

Sept. 24: NIL – 65.12 million tokens ($21.46 million), a significant 33.37% of circulating supply, unlock at 1:00 p.m. UTC.

Sept. 25: PARTI – A staggering 180 million tokens ($32.41 million), making up 78.44% of circulating supply, unlock at 10:00 a.m. UTC. This particular token unlock is drawing considerable attention due to its sheer volume relative to the current supply.

Sept. 25: ALT – 240 million tokens ($8.01 million), 5.67% of circulating supply, unlock at 10:00 a.m. UTC.

Sept. 26: SAHARA – 130 million tokens ($11.26 million), 6.08% of circulating supply, unlock at 12:00 p.m. UTC.

How Do Token Unlocks Impact the Market?

The release of a large number of tokens into the market can have several implications. Primarily, it increases the total circulating supply of a cryptocurrency. This increased supply, assuming constant demand, often leads to selling pressure as early investors or team members might decide to take profits. Consequently, this can result in price volatility or even a downward trend for the token’s value. However, the actual impact varies greatly depending on several factors.
Key Considerations for Token Unlocks:

Percentage of Circulating Supply: Unlocks that represent a large percentage of the current circulating supply, like PARTI’s 78.44%, tend to have a more pronounced effect.

Market Sentiment: A bullish market might absorb unlocks more easily, while a bearish sentiment could amplify selling pressure.

Project Fundamentals: Strong projects with active development and clear roadmaps might weather token unlocks better than those with weaker fundamentals.

Investor Intent: The likelihood of tokens being sold depends on the original investors’ strategies and the project’s long-term prospects.

For those invested in or considering these tokens, staying informed is paramount. While token unlocks can introduce short-term volatility, they also present potential opportunities for strategic entry or exit points. It’s essential to conduct thorough research beyond just the unlock schedule.
Actionable Insights:

Monitor Volume: Pay close attention to trading volume around the unlock dates. A significant spike in volume, especially coupled with price depreciation, could signal heavy selling.

Analyze Project Health: Look into the project’s recent developments, partnerships, and community engagement. A healthy project might recover quickly.

Consider Staking/Yield Opportunities: Some projects offer staking or yield farming, which can absorb some of the unlocked supply, reducing immediate selling pressure.

Risk Management: Always employ robust risk management strategies, such as setting stop-loss orders, especially when dealing with assets facing significant unlocks.

This week’s lineup of significant token unlocks, particularly the substantial PARTI release, underscores the dynamic nature of the crypto market. While these events can introduce volatility, they are a fundamental part of a token’s lifecycle. By understanding the mechanics and potential impacts of these unlocks, investors can make more informed decisions and navigate the market with greater confidence. Stay vigilant, do your homework, and prepare for the shifts these unlocks might bring.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What are token unlocks in cryptocurrency? Token unlocks refer to the scheduled release of previously restricted cryptocurrency tokens into the circulating supply. These tokens are often held by early investors, team members, or advisors under a vesting schedule.
2. Why do token unlocks happen? They are part of a project’s tokenomics, designed to distribute tokens over time, often to incentivize long-term holding, prevent early dumping by insiders, and align interests with the project’s success.
3. What is the typical impact of a token unlock on price? Often, a large token unlock can lead to increased selling pressure as more tokens become available, potentially causing short-term price volatility or a decrease. However, the actual impact depends on market sentiment, the percentage of tokens unlocked, and the project’s fundamentals.
4. Which token unlock is most significant this week? The PARTI token unlock on September 25th is particularly significant, releasing 180 million tokens, which constitutes 78.44% of its current circulating supply, potentially leading to substantial market movement for PARTI.
5. How can investors prepare for upcoming token unlocks? Investors should research the specific project’s fundamentals, monitor the unlock percentage relative to circulating supply, watch trading volume, and apply sound risk management strategies.
6. Do all token unlocks lead to price drops? Not necessarily. While common, strong market demand, positive project news, or effective strategies by token holders can mitigate negative price impacts. Sometimes, unlocks are already priced in by the market.
