Bio Protocol secured $6.9 million in seed funding led by Arthur Hayes' Maelstrom Fund, with significant contributions from Mechanism Capital and Animoca Brands.
The funding underscores growing institutional interest in the decentralized science sector, impacting market attention towards scientific research platforms leveraging blockchain technology.
Bio Protocol's recent funding of $6.9 million comes from prominent investors including Arthur Hayes' Maelstrom Fund. The funding highlights increased institutional backing for DeSci initiatives. It aims to facilitate onchain fundraising for scientific endeavors.
Arthur Hayes, former CEO of BitMEX, spearheads the investment with his Maelstrom Fund, joined by Mechanism Capital and Animoca Brands. The new capital enhances Bio Protocol’s capabilities in decentralized scientific fundraising via DAOs.

The funding highlights strong positive sentiment on Bio Protocol, as evidenced by a 141% increase in the BIO token's market presence over two months. The strong community reception points to sustained interest in DeSci developments.
Impact on related crypto markets, such as ETH and BTC, appeared limited. The funding’s primary effect centers on expanding the profile of DeSci assets, as mainstream digital tokens see no immediate change from this raise.
Historical trends suggest large DeSci funding rounds boost native protocol token prices temporarily. This follows past events where investments led to increased attention but no lasting changes to larger crypto assets like ETH or BTC.
