MoonPay, a known crypto payment firm, has come into the spotlight after acquiring Meso to boost its presence globally. In an X post dated September 15, 2025, it notes that the acquisition of Meso will help it build the largest crypto payment network.
The post further notes that Ali Aghareza and Ben Mills will be joining the team as new CTO and SVP of product. The report by Bloomberg reads that the buying of Meso is the fourth deal by MoonPay this year; earlier, it acquired Iron, Helio, and Decent(dot)xyz.
Bloomberg cited Soto Wright, noting that the acquisition by MoonPay this year has supported its efforts in creating a single, global payment network.
Wright also said that MoonPay closed last year with profitability, and to date in 2025, the company is on the profitable path in terms of earnings and cash flow.
According to Crunchbase, MoonPay has secured funding from Galaxy Digital, Ripple, Northstar(dot)vc, Atacama Ventures, Matte Babel, Kate Hudson, Thomas Pentz, and Nicholas Adler, among many others.
On the other hand, MoonPay has participated in fundraising for several companies, including Gaia, Glider, 1Money Network Technology, Rhythm, Interact, Bluedot, Entendre Finance, and many more.
MoonPay also bought Otherlife and ethpass to strengthen its position in the global crypto payment category; however, the amount of the majority of projects remained undisclosed. Is the crypto payment market ballooning?
By the end of 2024, the crypto payment market was valued at hundreds of billions, yet different research firms present different figures.
Last year, the crypto gateways and software market was worth $285.8 billion, which was estimated to beat the mark of $4.2 trillion by 2034, and the payment app category was valued at $556.9 million, forecast to reach $2.4 billion by 2033.
Some other available estimates note that the Bitcoin payment ecosystem was valued at $187.95 billion, which is seen reaching $489.10 billion by 2030.
Market experts argue that the ballooning size of the crypto payment market seems to be backed by growing awareness about digital assets, with clarity over these blockchain-based currencies and investment vehicles globally.
In 2025, the global crypto payment market will have marked new milestones, and a major contribution made by stablecoins, which are slowly becoming the backbone of international cross-border payments.
The United States, Hong Kong, and Japan have already clarified their stance on stablecoins, and some others are in the process of forming a transparent set of rules.
