Cardano is entering a new phase of accelerated development as founder Charles Hoskinson <a href="https://files.zotero.net/eyJleHBpcmVzIjoxNzQ2OTEyNjI3LCJoYXNoIjoiMGY1M2I0NThjNThjOTM5ZDJlZWE5Mzk1ZDMyMDc3MzQiLCJjb250ZW50VHlwZSI6ImFwcGxpY2F0aW9uXC9wZGYiLCJjaGFyc2V0IjoiIiwiZmlsZW5hbWUiOiJDaGFwbWFuIGV0IGFsLiAtIDIwMjQgLSBBcHBseWluZyBDb250aW51b3VzIEZvcm1hbCBNZXRob2RzIHRvIENhcmRhbm8gKEV4cC5wZGYifQ%3D%3D/b17ccf7e14f54e2f8c18b0fa981f5dbac8b214aa7870472bfcb163b69c564a61/Chapman%20et%20al.%20-%202024%20-%20Applying%20Continuous%20Formal%20Methods%20to%20Cardano%20%28Exp.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">announces</a> a significant shift in the project’s strategy. According to Hoskinson, the move is designed to speed up the delivery of key upgrades, with the Ouroboros Leios protocol now set for release in 2026.
The network, known for its formal methods and academic development model, is moving toward a more agile framework. The background for this transition arises from constant complaints made by the community regarding slow feature development and the lack of input from outside developers. Hoskinson realized that the old model was strong in security but kept contributors at arm’s length and slowed down the rate of progress.
He ensured that <a href="https://x.com/IOHK_Charles/status/1920989391646060603?t=PxhiCEEZNAUploauFCSxgA&amp;s=19" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">streamlining</a> the way development works is a key service to the primary goal of launching Leios in time. Hoskinson was clear that failure to meet the 2026 deadline will not be tolerated because, by all means, achieving that target is non-negotiable. During the announcement, internal changes, such as some cancellation of contracts, were applied to shift company attention towards more quick returns.

<h2 id="strong-independent-teams-and-agile-structure-to-accelerate-protocol-delivery-strong">Independent Teams and Agile Structure to Accelerate Protocol Delivery</h2>
Cardano’s new structure includes smaller, independent development teams working in parallel to accelerate progress. Groups like Aiken and Midgard contribute to the ecosystem, while IOG develops secure code through formal methods. This multi-team model enables the coexistence of diverse approaches and faster execution of network upgrades.
The introduction of agile teams departs from the long-term planning that defined Cardano’s strategy. While the past conception helped maintain the network’s stability, it restricted development progress. Delivering Leios as a pivotal scalability tool, Hoskinson has turned attention from conceptual planning to practical execution.
Ouroboros Leios is <a href="https://x.com/Hudhra2/status/1920996670189269453" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">expected</a> to improve Cardano’s transaction throughput and overall efficiency significantly. The network is actively addressing governance and interoperability improvement efforts alongside its own, attracting more cross-stakeholder involvement from external realms.
The community is interested in the current shift, emphasizing fundamental advances and active momentum. Supporters have hyped advancements like Hydra, IBC integrations, and pending Chang upgrades as proof that Cardano is moving faster.
<h2 id="strong-conclusion-strong">Conclusion</h2>
Hoskinson’s directive to speed up Cardano’s development has reshaped its roadmap and culture. With a firm deadline for Leios, the network is now focused on delivery and execution.
