<p>The largest cryptocurrency exchange platform in the world is facing new accusations, this time concerning alleged ties to Hamas. During a hearing in the federal court of New York on January 30, Binance firmly rejected these allegations, pleading for the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by the families of the victims of the October 2023 attacks.</p>

<p>On January 30, before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Binance’s attorneys presented their oral arguments to dismiss the lawsuit filed in January 2024. This legal action, brought by the families of the victims of the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel, targets Binance, its former CEO <a href="https://www.cointribune.com/en/cz-returns-to-the-crypto-scene-after-its-release/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Changpeng Zhao “CZ”</a>, as well as Iran and Syria.</p>

<p>The platform’s legal team has firmly rejected the allegations that <a href="https://www.cointribune.com/en/binance-under-siege-data-leak-and-lawsuit-for-complicity-with-hamas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Binance facilitated transactions for the benefit of Hamas</a>. “<em>There was no special relationship between Hamas and Binance</em>”, they emphasized, arguing that cryptocurrency is “not inherently dangerous”.</p>
<p>The plaintiffs are notably relying on the recent guilty plea of Changpeng Zhao in November 2023, regarding failures in anti-money laundering programs. This case resulted in a record fine of $4.3 billion for Binance and a <a href="https://www.cointribune.com/en/crypto-why-could-cz-of-binance-stay-in-prison-longer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">four-month prison sentence for its former CEO</a>.</p>
