Degen meme coin traders were able to raise $1 million through a new Solana meme coin called MIRA after Siqi Chen said his daughter Mira was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer in September and that research and funding had “been lacking.”
The token was created on Pump.fun, and soared from near zero to an $80 million market cap yesterday after Chen’s plea. MIRA’s <a href="https://insidebitcoins.com/news/mira-price-prediction-mira-plummets-75-as-experts-say-consider-this-rival-solana-meme-coin-for-its-huge-632-staking-apy" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">price</a> has since dropped over 80% from its peak to trade over a cent as of Dec. 27.&nbsp;

Chen commented on the overwhelming support from the Solana community in a Dec. 26 X post. “I’ve had a lot of very memorable days on the internet over the past 30 years, but this one tops them all,” he wrote in the post. He added that he and his wife are “unbelievably grateful” to the Solana community for their support.

Chen then went on to say that 100% of the revenue that was generated from all the “kitkat/memecoin” tokens including liquidity pool fees will be going directly to rare disease research.
Initially, Chen and his wife planned to raise between “$2 – 300K” through a gofundme page to donate to Hankinson Lab at the University of Colorado for Christmas. However, he said in the X post that they will now be able to donate at least $1 million even if he does not “sell a single token more.” The <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-mira-and-dr-hankinson-find-a-cure" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">gofundme</a> campaign he set up has raised 80% of its $300,000 goal.
<h2 id="span-style-font-weight-400-chen-plans-to-liquidate-1-000-every-10-minutes-span">Chen Plans To Liquidate $1,000 Every 10 Minutes</h2>
In his X post, Chen also said that his plan going forward is to liquidate $1,000 worth of MIRA every 10 minutes, perpetually. If this plan changes, he said that he will notify the community 24 hours in advance in an effort to maintain predictability and trust.
He added that he does not care if traders want to “rug” the newly-created <a href="https://insidebitcoins.com/news/5-best-meme-coins-set-to-explode-in-2025s-crypto-bull-market" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">meme coin</a>, because he has already raised much more than his initial $200K target for rare disease research.
