The Sui Network, a Layer 1 blockchain known for its high performance and infinite horizontal scaling, has officially integrated native USDC issued by Circle. This integration marks a significant milestone for Sui users, who can now directly access one of the most popular stablecoins in the crypto ecosystem without relying on third-party bridges.
<a href="https://x.com/circle/status/1843637724764389857" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">Native USDC</a> on <a href="https://crypto.ro/en/cryptocurrencies/sui/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Sui</a> eliminates the risks and complexities associated with bridged assets, which are traditionally used to transfer tokens across blockchains. By offering direct on-chain representation of USDC, Sui users benefit from increased liquidity and security for transactions, as they no longer need to rely on lock-and-mint or canonical bridges that introduce potential vulnerabilities.
The integration also lays the groundwork for upcoming innovations on Sui. One major development is the planned introduction of Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), which will enable seamless movement of USDC across different blockchain networks. This feature will provide users with greater flexibility in transferring assets securely between supported blockchains, including Sui, without the need for bridging.
The arrival of native USDC creates new opportunities for decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Sui Network, allowing protocols to offer enhanced liquidity, better user experiences, and streamlined asset transfers. Many DeFi applications are already adopting native USDC on day one, including platforms such as Aftermath Finance, Cetus, DeepBook, and Suilend, with several offering users the ability to swap bridged USDC for the new native version.
Jameel Khalfan, Head of Ecosystem Development at the Sui Foundation, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “Native USDC grants the Sui community easy access to one of the world’s most stable digital currencies, and the opportunities it unlocks for the ecosystem are endless.”
With this native integration, Sui is positioning itself as a powerful player in the DeFi space, driving secure and efficient cross-chain finance solutions while leveraging the stability and wide acceptance of USDC.
