A group of <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Texas</a> residents has filed a class-action lawsuit against <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/marathon-digital-to-boost-energy-efficiency-with-s19-xp-miners/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Marathon</a> Digital Holdings, one of the largest <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russias-bitcoin-gold-rush-mining-machine-influx-outpaces-rest-of-the-world/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin miners</a> in the <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/pennsylvania-a-new-hub-for-cryptomining-ignites-environmental-concerns/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">United States</a>. The lawsuit cites constant noise disturbances from the operation of over 20,000 mining machines, which are located near residential areas.
According to the suit, the noise levels exceed 85 decibels, violating health regulations and adversely affecting the health and quality of life of local residents. Despite numerous complaints, Marathon Digital, which reports monthly revenues exceeding $50 million, has not taken sufficient measures to reduce the noise.
The plaintiffs' attorneys are seeking compensation for emotional distress and a court order requiring the company to install noise-reduction barriers. The situation has drawn attention from environmental organizations and local authorities, who have initiated an <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/large-scale-cryptocurrency-mining-farm-uncovered-in-dagestans-kizilyurtovsky-district/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">investigation</a> into the impact of crypto mining on the environment and public health.
