Fantom

The Sonic blockchain has achieved a transaction finality of 720 milliseconds (ms) during its testnet.
In blockchain, <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/explained/what-is-finality-in-blockchain-and-why-does-it-matter" rel="null" target="null" text="null" title="null">finality</a> is the assurance that a transaction is irreversible, which happens after it is added to a block on the blockchain ledger.
Sonic claims to be the world’s fastest Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chain, with a “true” 720-ms finality, according to Andre Cronje, the creator of the Fantom Network and the chief technology officer of Sonic Labs.
Cronje <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://x.com/AndreCronjeTech/status/1832634461697273997" rel="null" target="null" text="null" title="null">wrote</a> in a Sept. 8 X post:

After a transaction is executed, most blockchains require several additional blocks to make the transaction non-reversible, unlike Sonic, which brings this transaction finality to just over 700ms.
Cronje is considered one of the most notable figures in <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/learn/defi-a-comprehensive-guide-to-decentralized-finance" rel="null" target="null" text="null" title="null">decentralized finance (DeFi)</a>. Previously, Cronje founded Yearn.finance and the Keep3r Network.

<h2 id="sonic-could-become-the-fastest-chain-by-finality">Sonic could become the fastest chain by finality</h2>
Despite being in a testnet environment, which could bolster a blockchain’s performance compared to real-world environments, the Sonic chain’s finality is impressive.
Cronje thinks Sonic could become the fastest blockchain network by transaction finality if it can uphold this number after the mainnet launch.
Currently, the Solana mainnet is the fastest blockchain network, with a 12.8-second transaction finality, <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://chainspect.app/chain/solana" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" text="null" title="https://chainspect.app/chain/solana">according</a> to Chainspect data.

Despite Solana boasting 400-millisecond block production times, Solana typically requires 31 block confirmations to reach true finality, unlike the Sonic testnet’s 420-millisecond feat.

<h2 id="up-to-90-of-sonic-gas-fees-go-to-developers">Up to 90% of Sonic gas fees go to developers</h2>
Sonic could become a go-to blockchain for builders and developers.
Cronje added that this is mainly because 90% of the network’s generated transaction fees are paid back to blockchain developers.
The Fantom Foundation also supports Sonic’s development. In June, it <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/fantom-120m-sonic-network-launch" rel="null" target="null" text="null" title="null">announced a $120 million</a> Fantom (<a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/fantom-ftm-price-index" rel="" target="_self" text="null" title="https://cointelegraph.com/fantom-ftm-price-index">FTM</a>) token allocation to help developers migrate their projects from Fantom to the Sonic network.
The foundation announced the <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/fantom-unveils-sonic-foundation-for-new-sonic-chain" rel="" target="_self" text="null" title="https://cointelegraph.com/news/fantom-unveils-sonic-foundation-for-new-sonic-chain">launch of the Sonic Foundation</a> and the development of the Sonic chain on May 23.
