Vitalik Buterin, recently outlined his vision for the future of the Ethereum network. During an appearance on the Bankless podcast, Buterin <a href="https://www.ethnews.com/vitalik-buterin-transfers-massive-eth-sum-whats-he-planning/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">discussed key upgrades</a> he believes will shape the protocol over the next decade. One of the most notable projections is the idea that Ethereum nodes could eventually run on mobile phones.
Currently, Ethereum relies on a network of decentralized nodes, which are typically operated on advanced computing systems. Running these nodes requires significant resources and technical knowledge.&nbsp;
However, Buterin foresees a future where mobile phones can handle this task, making the process more accessible. He mentioned that advancements in computation could allow mobile devices to process Ethereum transactions efficiently.
In this scenario, a mobile phone would be able to download data and verify it in less than 12 seconds. This would involve solving cryptographic problems that are essential for blockchain validation. 
Buterin emphasized that, with the right technological developments, this process could become much more streamlined. The goal is to make node verification simpler and faster for users.
Buterin also acknowledged some of the challenges involved. The primary issue lies in the large amounts of data that <a href="https://www.ethnews.com/vitalik-buterin-reveals-shocking-truth-about-layer-2-security/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ethereum nodes</a> require to operate. However, he expressed confidence that as mobile devices continue to improve, especially in terms of storage, these problems will be manageable.
Buterin’s <a href="https://x.com/VitalikButerin/status/1830526983375065514" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">vision reflects</a> his belief that the protocol can adapt to changing technology and user demands. If mobile nodes become a reality, it could increase participation in the <a href="https://www.ethnews.com/vitalik-buterin-reacts-to-durovs-shocking-detainment-future-of-tech-at-stake/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ethereum network</a>, making it more decentralized.
