In a significant move towards sustainable cryptocurrency mining, Marathon Digital has announced a new partnership with the Kenyan government to develop renewable energy infrastructure. The collaboration is set to transform Kenya into a hub for green Bitcoin mining by utilizing methane gas and other renewable energy sources.
Marathon Digital has already been at the forefront of using innovative energy solutions, as seen in its 2023 collaboration with Nodal Power, where the company began mining Bitcoin using methane gas in Utah. The latest partnership with Kenya is expected to scale these efforts, with a focus on long-term sustainability.
The initial phase of the project will involve the development of a 280-kilowatt methane-powered mining facility. This facility will not only contribute to reducing methane emissions but also provide a reliable and renewable energy source for Marathon Digital’s operations. The Kenyan government is hopeful that this partnership will lead to more such initiatives, boosting the country’s energy sector and making it a global player in green technology.
