Genesis Digital Assets (GDA), a leading global Bitcoin mining company, has unveiled plans to significantly expand its Texas-based Rowdy Data Center from 60 megawatts (MW) to 400 MW. This move underscores GDA's commitment to utilizing Texas' abundant renewable energy resources and favorable policies that support innovation in the energy sector, according to <a href="https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/leading-bitcoin-miner-gda-plans-mining-expansion-to-400-mv-leveraging-renewables" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoinmagazine.com</a>.
The Rowdy Data Center, located in Vernon, Wilbarger County, currently operates with 60 MW of power, primarily sourced from local wind energy through the Oklaunion Substation. The expansion is part of GDA’s strategy to strengthen the Bitcoin network by enhancing its mining infrastructure while aligning with sustainable energy practices.
The project also revitalizes the community by repurposing the former Oklaunion Power Station, which had been closed since 2020. GDA's operations have so far created 12 permanent jobs and 150 construction jobs, contributing to the local economy.
As GDA continues to scale its operations, the company aims to set a precedent for integrating renewable energy with Bitcoin mining, reinforcing Texas' position as a pivotal hub in the cryptocurrency industry.
