Bitfarms Ltd. has assumed control of a new large-scale data center in Sharon, Pennsylvania, marking its first major U.S. site. The company has significantly increased its U.S. power capacity from 20 MW to 140 MW, with plans to add an additional 10 MW by 2025. This expansion, situated within the PJM Interconnection market, offers Bitfarms access to low-cost, flexible power, ideal for Bitcoin mining as well as high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, according to <a href="https://ultramining.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ultramining.com</a>.
The Pennsylvania site is expected to support over 8 EH/s with the latest generation miners. Bitfarms has already ordered the necessary equipment and anticipates bringing 30 MW online by the end of 2024. This move aligns with Bitfarms’ aggressive U.S. growth strategy, leveraging the PJM grid’s energy trading and demand-response opportunities to reduce overall power costs.
Founded in 2017, Bitfarms operates 12 Bitcoin data centers across four countries and is committed to sustainable energy use, primarily hydroelectric. The Sharon site strengthens Bitfarms' presence in the U.S. market and reflects the company's broader strategy of geographical diversification and growth within the evolving Bitcoin mining industry.
