 NEXPACE, the blockchain arm of South Korean video game developer Nexon, unveiled a new cryptocurrency designed to increase user involvement and foster growth within its web3 game, MapleStory Universe.&nbsp;

<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://medium.com/@MaplestoryU/news-maplestory-universe-unveils-proprietary-token-nxpc-today-1733db3cb924" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">In an announcement</a> published today, August 27, NEXPACE introduced the NXPC token, which aims to enable players and community members to actively participate in creating in-game content—an area usually handled by game developers.
MapleStory Universe, a web3 offshoot of Nexon’s 2003 2D online game MapleStory, is built on the Avalanche blockchain and features non-fungible tokens at its core.&nbsp;
According to the company, NXPC will enable contributors to engage with in-game items, fostering a “natural flow of community-driven growth.” While specific details remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that the NXPC token will also be based on the Avalanche blockchain, aligning with the game’s platform.&nbsp;
Sunyoung Hwang, Executive Director of NEXPACE, stated,

Meanwhile, this move isn’t Nexon’s first venture into cryptocurrency, but it highlights the company’s growing commitment to the blockchain space. Previously, Nexon <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210427006215/en/Nexon-Purchases-100-Million-Worth-of-Bitcoin" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">invested</a> around $100 million in over 1,700 Bitcoin. CEO Owen Mahoney described the acquisition as part of a strategic approach to safeguard shareholder value and preserve the purchasing power of the company’s cash reserves.
In a similar development,&nbsp; Layer 2 network Starknet <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/08/starknet-announces-first-mainnet-vote-on-staking-proposal-for-strk-token-holders/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">announced</a> its first mainnet vote for token holders. On August 20, the project revealed a proposal to define the staking mechanism, aiming for a complete launch by October. If approved, a staking testnet will begin in September, followed by the mainnet launch in Q4.
The voting process includes a three-day test period from September 2–4, 2024, and a main voting phase from September 9–13. Votes will be cast on the Governance Hub, allowing users to delegate or self-delegate their votes.
