Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has introduced a new governance concept called “Plurality” to the crypto community. In a recent <a href="https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2024/08/21/plurality.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">blog post</a>, he explored the challenge of balancing crypto’s cypherpunk roots with the need for effective governance as the industry matures.
Buterin argued that blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and DAOs need to establish their own governance systems as they grow, rather than just avoiding external control.
He drew parallels to broader societal tensions around governance, citing examples from U.S. politics and technology. He mentioned Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s ban on lab-grown meat, which some criticize as authoritarian.
