<h4><strong>Iran’s state energy company, Tavanir, is offering citizens over $20 to report illegal cryptocurrency miners. </strong></h4> 
<p>The country faces power outages and extreme heat, with temperatures reaching nearly 50 °C. Let’s explore more about this important news for crypto mining.</p> 
<h5><strong>Iran Pays Citizens to Report Illegal Crypto Mining</strong></h5> 
<p>Tavanir <a href="https://www.iranintl.com/en/202408135616" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blames</a> illegal crypto mining and the intense heat for the strain on Iran’s power grid. According to Tavanir’s CEO, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, some people use subsidized electricity to mine cryptocurrencies without permission. To stop this, Tavanir is offering a reward of one million tomans (about $23) for each illegal mining rig reported.</p> 
<p>Mashhadi revealed that 230,000 illegal mining rigs have been found so far. These rigs consumed as much power as a province with 1.4 million people. Authorities in Iran often discover illegal mining operations, sometimes hidden in schools and mosques with free or subsidized electricity.</p>

<h5><strong>Global Crackdown onCcrypto Mining</strong></h5> 
<p>Crypto mining involves an energy-intensive process, which has led to a global crackdown on mining activities. For example, Venezuela <a href="https://www.altcoinbuzz.io/cryptocurrency-news/venezuela-disconnects-crypto-mining-farms-from-the-grid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned crypto mining in May</a> to protect its power grid. The country’s authorities claimed banning activities would help ensure more supply for the general public.</p> 
<p>Venezuela isn’t alone in cracking down on crypto mining. China and Kazakhstan are also taking steps to ban or limit these operations. Even in the U.S., Texas has started to scale back crypto mining. Locals complained that big mining operations led to higher energy bills.</p>

<p>Arkansas is also growing cautious of mining. Lawmakers there are considering a bill to limit noise from mining farms and restrict foreign ownership. Arkansas is attractive to miners because of its cheap energy, but concerns are growing.</p>
