 Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently outlined his vision for achieving seamless cross-chain interoperability among Ethereum Layer 2 networks.&nbsp;

In a series of posts on X on August 5, Buterin <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/VitalikButerin/status/1820404774493110309" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">expressed confidence</a> that current interoperability challenges in the <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2021/10/scaling-the-ethereum-blockchain-a-comprehensive-guide-on-layer-2-solutions/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Layer 2 ecosystem</a> would soon be resolved, leading to a smoother user experience across Ethereum’s entire ecosystem, including the main network, rollups, validiums, and sidechains.

Buterin<a href="https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/1820424565866246573?t=8Ah0mhhtUCScfiT4uewGrg&amp;s=19" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> revisited the concept</a> of “cross-L2-replayable account state updates,” labelling it as one of the ways the challenges would be addressed. This approach allows L2 networks to receive recent Layer 1 state updates while maintaining security and low latency. He <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/1820424565866246573?t=8Ah0mhhtUCScfiT4uewGrg&amp;s=19" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">noted</a> that these “stage 1” updates are designed to be independent of specific rollup technologies, making them widely applicable across different platforms. However, he acknowledged that fully realizing this vision could take more than five years.

<a href="https://twitter.com/0xKofi/status/1820411865077309792?t=odyc7_QVZ4UysIMKGJFXWQ&amp;s=19" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">When asked about the most promising</a> paths to this cross-L2 interoperability, Buterin <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/1820412635244081471?t=ldveE7LJblHPbEFG6MXUnw&amp;s=19" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">highlighted</a> several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs)that are central to this goal. These include EIP-3370, which introduces a new address standard with human-readable prefixes, and EIP-7683, which aims to establish a standard communication protocol for various Ethereum L2 networks. He also listed EIP-3668, a proposal to establish a method for Ethereum smart contracts to access off-chain data in a standardized way.
These comments from Buterin come on the heels of his recent advocacy for faster transaction speeds to improve Ethereum’s scalability and user experience. Despite significant progress over the past five years, he noted in a recent blog post that there’s still room for improvement.&nbsp;
Buterin<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/07/vitalik-buterin-suggest-new-solutions-for-faster-transaction-speeds-on-ethereum/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> suggested</a> that proposed solutions include single-slot finality (SSF), which is inspired by the Tendermint consensus but adapted for Ethereum, would enable faster block finality by ensuring each new block is finalized before the next one is proposed.
