Digital Shovel Holdings Inc. has filed a lawsuit against RK Mission Critical LLC, RK Mechanical LLC, and RK Industries LLC in the US District Court for the District of Colorado. The lawsuit, announced via a press release, accuses the defendants of infringing on Digital Shovel’s patents related to their V-Shape technology. This technology, developed in 2018 and patented between 2022 and 2024, enhances miner density in crypto mining containers by 30%, offering significant operational benefits, according to <a href="https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/digital-shovel-sues-rk-mission-critical-for-patent-infringement-on-bitcoin-mining-containers">Bitcoinmagazine</a>. 
According to the complaint, Compute North, a client of RK Mission Critical, initially sought to license this technology from Digital Shovel in 2019 but was denied. Despite this, RK Mission Critical allegedly produced containers closely resembling Digital Shovel’s, with some staff even mistaking them for their own products. The complaint states, "Instead of competing fairly, defendants are exploiting the innovative technologies that Digital Shovel has worked hard to develop and protect through patents." 
Digital Shovel’s CEO, Scot Johnson, revealed that based on RK Mission Critical's marketing, it is estimated that around 850 units, each sold for over $200,000, resulted in approximately $170 million in sales. Johnson emphasized that the focus is on enforcing their intellectual property rights against RK Mission Critical, rather than targeting the end users or publicly traded <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/blockstream-aims-for-bitcoin-profit-with-mining-rig-investment-ahead-of-2024-halving/">mining companies</a> using the infringing products. 
Despite being aware of the pending patents since 2021, Digital Shovel claims RK Mission Critical continued production without authorization. Their refusal to engage in settlement negotiations prompted Digital Shovel to seek legal action. The company aims to obtain compensation and a court order to halt further sales of the infringing containers.
