Paraguayan authorities have dismantled the largest illegal bitcoin mining operation in the country's history. On May 28, the Paraguayan National Power Administration (ANDE) and local prosecutors executed a significant operation in Saltos de Guaira. They detected and disconnected 2,738 <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russias-bitcoin-gold-rush-mining-machine-influx-outpaces-rest-of-the-world/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">bitcoin miners</a> operating without authorization. The mining farm had illicitly bypassed the electric meter, siphoning power directly from the national grid, according to <a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/latam-insights-paraguay-shuts-down-largest-illegal-bitcoin-mining-farm-to-date-argentina-and-el-salvador-discuss-bitcoin" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin.com</a>.
In addition to disconnecting the miners, authorities seized five electric transformers with a combined capacity of 7,150 kilo-volt-amperes. This large-scale operation highlighted the ongoing issue of <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/abkhazia-intensifies-crackdown-on-illegal-crypto-mining/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">illegal mining</a> activities that drain resources from Paraguay's electric infrastructure. The success of this intervention was due to the use of supervisory and control systems (SCADA) and artificial intelligence (AI) software, which helped monitor unusual load current peaks.
