Additionally, police have begun probing the case, according to the business daily Nikkei.</p><p>Despite the rising popularity of cryptocurrencies, the industry has faced numerous scandals and sudden price collapses. In 2014, thieves stole 850,000 bitcoins, worth around $470 million at the time, from Japanese exchange Mt. Gox.
