The Worldcoin Foundation has enhanced the security of biometric data by making its Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC) system open source. This innovative system encrypts iris codes into secret shares that are held by multiple parties, ensuring enhanced security. Consequently, it enables the permanent deletion of iris codes previously stored under the old uniqueness-checking protocol.

According to Jannick Preiwisch, the data protection officer at Worldcoin, this development not only adheres to rigorous privacy standards but also offers users increased control over their data. 
Users now have the ability to personally manage their data and even un-verify their World IDs. This initiative is part of Worldcoin’s ongoing effort to improve trust and accessibility in the global economy through advanced privacy-focused technologies. 
Moreover, Worldcoin’s commitment to user privacy and data security comes after previous challenges with regulatory compliance. The foundation has made strides in enhancing user privacy with features such as personal custody of data and open-sourcing their iris-scanning technology.&nbsp;
