A proposed new tax form, Form 1099-DA “Digital Asset Proceeds from Broker Transactions,” for reporting digital asset transaction profits has been made public by the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the nation’s tax agency. In 2025, taxpayers may face consequences for underreporting their cryptocurrency revenue in prior years. Foreign exchange users that do not officially serve U.S. people will not be required to submit the form. However, if a taxpayer transfers assets to a U.S. exchange, the IRS may be able to discover the offshore activity.
