Cryptocurrency mining, particularly through blockchain technologies, has been criticized for its substantial carbon footprint, comparable to the energy consumption of entire countries like Argentina. For instance, supporting cryptocurrency mining in New Mexico could lead to the creation of 78.4 megawatt hours of solar power per Bitcoin mined, while Wyoming could see 265.8 megawatt hours of wind power generated for each Bitcoin.
