The second week of a closely watched trial in the UK, which could determine whether Australian computer scientist Craig Wright indeed invented Bitcoin, commenced on Monday. During the questioning, Wright continued to level accusations. Against various individuals and entities that further added to the complexity of the ongoing proceedings. What were the ‘irrelevant allegations’ against the COPA? 
In 2021, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a nonprofit supported by crypto giants like Coinbase, Microstrategy, and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, filed a <a href="https://news.todayq.com/is-craig-wright-satoshi-defending-against-forgery-accusations-in-copa-trial/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lawsuit against Wright</a>. They accused him of making large-scale forgeries to prove he’s Satoshi Nakamoto. The second week of the trial, which many awaited, began on Monday, with COPA’s lawyers questioning Wright for the fifth day. They’re trying to look closely at Wright’s proof and show that what he says about creating Bitcoin isn’t true. 
In a turn of events during the trial, tensions escalated as Wright made what the court deemed “irrelevant allegations” against COPA members, accusing them of turning Bitcoin into a “money-go-up-token scam.” The presiding Judge James Mellor intervened, emphasizing the need to focus solely on the central issue at hand – determining Wright’s identity as <a href="https://news.todayq.com/is-bitcoins-creator-satoshi-nakamoto-an-individual-or-a-collective-entity-investigation-sheds-light/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Satoshi Nakamoto</a>. 
The trial has seen Wright attempting to defend his claims through submitted evidence, including what he terms as “primary reliance documents.” However, COPA’s counsel, Bird &amp; Bird LLP’s Jonathan Hough, has relentlessly scrutinized these materials, highlighting inconsistencies and discrepancies. Wright kept giving reasons and pointing fingers at various people for the inconsistencies Hough mentioned. He said that similarities between his dissertation and a paper by Hilary Pearson were because of a mistake by editors. Wright also said his ex-wife Lynn’s statement, where she didn’t remember him talking about Bitcoin, was because she was dealing with breast cancer. 
The trial has witnessed a series of conflicting narratives, with Wright’s version of events often changing. When confronted with these inconsistencies, <a href="https://news.todayq.com/fake-satoshi-craig-wrights-appeal-rejected-by-uk-apex-court/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fake Satoshi </a>has vehemently denied any alterations in his testimony, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. 
Furthermore, Wright has downplayed his initial perception of Bitcoin, claiming he viewed it merely as a means to secure a partnership or professorship with tenure. However, his assertions regarding Bitcoin’s creation and his involvement continue to be scrutinized by the court and the community. 
In a related development, the global crypto market cap stands at $1.87 trillion, showing a 3.73% increase. Over the past 24 hours, the total market volume surged to $72.25 billion, a 55.75% rise. DeFi volume is at $5.99 billion, comprising 8.29% of the total, while stablecoins dominate at $65.17 billion, making up 90.21% of the volume. Bitcoin’s dominance is at 52.46%, up by 0.02%. These figures reflect the ongoing market momentum amid developments in Craig Wright’s trial.
