In a notable move within the cryptocurrency mining sector, Jane Street, a leading proprietary trading firm, has significantly increased its stake in <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/marathon-digital-povyshaet-energoeffektivnost-s-pomoshhyu-majnerov-s19-xp/">Marathon Digital Holdings</a>, Inc., one of the largest public bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/blockstream-aims-for-bitcoin-profit-with-mining-rig-investment-ahead-of-2024-halving/">mining companies</a>. As of December 31, Jane Street's ownership has surged to 6.5% of Marathon's outstanding shares, marking a substantial investment in the future of bitcoin mining, according to <a href="https://theminermag.com/news/2024-02-10/jane-street-marathon-bitcoin-mining/">TheMinerMag</a>. 
This increase in ownership is evidenced by a new Schedule 13G filing which revealed that Jane Street now holds approximately 14.4 million shares of Marathon, valued at $334 million based on the latest closing price of Marathon’s shares. This represents a dramatic expansion of Jane Street's involvement in Marathon, with data indicating that the firm held only 1.65 million shares as of September 29, 2023. 
The move by Jane Street to amplify its stake in Marathon Digital signifies the first instance in which the trading firm has reported ownership exceeding 5% of Marathon's outstanding shares. This strategic investment reflects a growing interest and confidence in the robustness and potential of the bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/">mining industry</a>. 
In parallel developments, BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has also adjusted its holdings within the bitcoin mining sector. An update filed revealed BlackRock's asset and investment management subsidiaries now own 7.4 million shares of Bit Digital, equating to 8.2% of Bit Digital's outstanding shares as of December 31. This adjustment underscores BlackRock's ongoing commitment to the bitcoin mining sector, complementing its significant investments in Marathon and <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/riot-platforms-to-boost-efficiency-with-midas-immersion-coolings/">Riot</a> throughout 2023.
