GoDaddy, the world’s leading domain registrar has announced a partnership with <a href="https://www.nftgators.com/nft-domain-explained-what-is-an-nft-domain/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Web3 domain</a> name service provider Ethereum Name Service (ENS). The collaboration will enable domain name users to link their domains to ENS effortlessly, with no additional costs or technical experience required.
GoDaddy views this partnership as a major step toward bridging the gap between the Domain Name System (DNS) and blockchain technology.
According to <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/godaddy-and-ethereum-name-service-simplify-connecting-domain-names-and-crypto-wallets-for-customers-302053466.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">the announcement</a>, domain owners will benefit from the security and reliability of GoDaddy and ENS’ innovative blockchain infrastructure.
“As a long-time domain industry steward, we are always looking for innovative enhancements that benefit our customers,” stated Paul Nicks, president of domains at GoDaddy. “Partnering with ENS presents our customers with a unique opportunity to experience the fusion of domain names and blockchain technologies, bringing some great benefits for users in both areas.”
This announcement comes barely three months after another Web3 domains issuer, Unstoppable Domains <a href="https://www.nftgators.com/unstoppable-domains-expands-its-web3-domain-support-to-web2-domains/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">announced</a> it was expanding its Web3 domain support to Web2. The company said it will allow web3 domain holders to purchase .com domains, by making Web3 features available to Web2 domains.
GoDaddy has been eyeing the Web3 domain space for a while. The company said in a statement on Monday that high Ethereum <a href="https://www.nftgators.com/nft-gas-fees/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">gas fees</a> prevented it from bringing domain names to ENS.
However, ENS deployed new smart contracts to enable the resolution process of domain names in ENSm, at the DNS top-level domain (TLD) level. Users can now verify DNS records, enabling a cost-free integration.
According to GoDaddy, the integration not only simplifies user experience but also fosters a sense of trust in digital identities. This allows domain owners and crypto wallet holders to effortlessly link their digital assets for efficient management.
Nick Johnson, founder of ENS said the partnership demonstrates his company’s commitment to building a more secure, decentralized and user-friendly internet.&nbsp;
“ENS, much like DNS, is a public good and a core part of the internet infrastructure. By pairing up ENS names and GoDaddy domains, we will streamline the way users interact with web domains, blending the familiarity of the DNS with the potential of blockchain technology,” said Johnson.
