Since the launch of spot bitcoin ETFs on January 11, Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) has witnessed a substantial outflow of more than 100,000 bitcoin (BTC) to exchanges. This move, according to data compiled from Arkham, comes after Grayscale decided to cut its management fee to 1.50%, a 50 basis points reduction following the transition to a <a href="https://news.todayq.com/how-many-bitcoin-do-spot-etf-issuers-hold-now/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">spot ETF</a>. As of Wednesday morning, GBTC’s publicly known wallet showed a decrease of about 100,000 BTC since January 11, with the total holding now standing at approximately 537,000 Bitcoin. The majority of the transferred bitcoin went to Coinbase Prime in preparation for potential sales, contributing to the decline in <a href="https://news.todayq.com/grayscale-bitcoin-trust-gbtc-bleeds-as-btc-price-hits-38k/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Grayscale</a>‘s assets under management (AUM) by over $1 billion each day this week.
The rapid pace of bitcoin sales from GBTC has been identified as one of the factors putting pressure on the overall price of bitcoin, which recently dipped below $40,000, reaching its lowest level in almost two months. As of the latest update, bitcoin is hovering around $40,000.
It’s essential to note that not all Bitcoin outflows from the Grayscale wallet may be related to redemption.Arkham highlights that the outflows are typically split between Coinbase Prime and new GBTC custody addresses. This suggests that not all moved BTC is being redeemed, as some outflows seem to be settlements of trading activity from previous days. Analysis regarding the future outflows 
Despite hopes among bitcoin bulls that the recent sale of 22 million GBTC shares by the FTX estate might slow down GBTC exits, this hasn’t materialized. The movement of an additional 19,000 Bitcoin to exchanges this morning underscores the continued trend of Bitcoin leaving GBTC.
The reduction in Grayscale’s management fee to 1.50% is noteworthy, but it still places GBTC at a premium compared to other competing bitcoin ETFs. The fee is more than 100 basis points higher than the fees charged by the other nine competing funds. The price dropped by 6.69% over the past 5 days, reaching $35.27 with a decrease of $2.53.
