Ahead of its mainnet launch, core developers of Ethereum, the leading blockchain platform, deployed the Dencun upgrade, featuring proto-danksharding (EIP-4844) on the Goerli test network today marking a pivotal moment in the platform’s evolution.&nbsp; 
As per <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbhFdUFnWUU">announcement</a> from Tim Beiko, Ethereum Foundation’s Community Manager, there was low participation among validators for the fork resulting in a “split chain”. The network is also awaiting finality since the validators failed to reach a consensus due to low participation. 
Dencun’s integration of Goerli completes one step in a three-phase plan aimed at implementing a more economical data storage method on the primary Ethereum blockchain. 
<h2 id="b-dencun-launch-goes-to-next-phase-b">Dencun launch goes to next phase</h2> 
Upon successful execution of the Goerli testnet, the Dencun upgrade will be deployed on the Sepolia and Holesky test nets in the upcoming weeks. Initially, the developers agreed to schedule the upgrade of the Sepolia test network on January 30 and the Holesky test network on February 7. 
However, certain developers have expressed concerns about the perceived short interval between the Goerli test network and the Sepolia test network upgrades, deeming it inadequate for identifying potential issues. The activation on the mainnet is planned once Dencun operates seamlessly across all three testnets. 
Undoubtedly, the successful deployment of the Dencun upgrade on the Goerli test network reflects the dedication of Ethereum’s core developers to delivering cutting-edge solutions to the blockchain ecosystem.&nbsp; This implementation also showcases Ethereum’s commitment to scalability and positions the platform as a frontrunner in addressing the challenges associated with blockchain technology.

Sharding is a scaling solution that aims to improve the network’s throughput by dividing the blockchain into smaller, more manageable parts, or shards.

The community is currently divided on whether to integrate Verkle Trees into the execution layer or prioritize a series of smaller Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) for the upcoming upgrade. Meanwhile, <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/ethereum-co-founder-teases-plans-to-revamp-ethereum-staking/">Ethereum is moving forward with the redesign of the staking overhaul</a>. In the process, some changes will be made to staking pools as well as mining pools.
