After the approval of the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), currently overall cryptocurrency market is struggling to gain momentum.&nbsp; Amidst this, a recent attack seems to have targeted Bitfinex, as attackers attempted a partial XRP payment exploit, according to Bitfinex Chief Technology Officer Paolo Ardoino. Bitfinex faces an attempt to XRP exploit 
On January 14, 2024, an attacker attempted to transfer Ripple’s native token XRP of worth around $15 billion, from Bitfinex using a partial payment exploit. Additionally, this attempt by the exploiter failed, and no harm was done to the exchanges. 
CTO Paolo highlighted this incident on X (formerly Twitter), mentioning that someone tried to attack Bitfinex via a “partial payment exploit.” He also highlighted the unsuccessful attempt, attributing it to Bitfinex’s proper handling of the delivered amount data field.

However, Whale Alert (blockchain-tracking social media account) initially posted this incident on X that it found a transaction of 25.6 billion XRP, worth around $14.8 billion, transferred from an unknown wallet to Bitfinex. The post was later deleted, citing an issue with properly reading the Ripple node response, resulting in a few incorrect posts.

Additionally, Scottmelker, with the X handle, replied to the Whale Alert post, stating that this couldn’t be real, as the overall circulating supply is around 54.2 billion, almost half of XRP’s total circulating supply. Notably, in 2023, several exploitations occurred with the<a href="https://news.todayq.com/mixin-network-loses-200-million-in-major-hack/"> partial payment exploitation technique</a>, leading to significant losses. XRP’s technical analysis and price momentum 
Despite the widespread impact of this significant attack tried by exploiters, XRP’s price remained unaffected. Currently, XRP is trading near $0.58, experiencing a more than 1% surge in the last 24 hours. However, over the last 30 days, it has seen over 8% downside momentum. 
According to expert technical analysis, XRP, on a weekly time frame, forms a symmetrical triangle price action pattern and currently moves in a narrow zone. This suggests a potential breakout or breakdown in the coming days. Overall, XRP seems bullish as it is trading above the 200 EMA (Exponential Moving Average) on the weekly time frame.
