The founder and former CEO of Binance, Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, witnessed a substantial surge in his wealth, with an impressive increase of nearly $25 billion in 2023. Despite recent legal challenges, including a guilty plea in the United States, Zhao’s net worth has soared to a reported $37.2 billion,<a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> solidifying his position</a> as the 35th wealthiest individual globally.
According to a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-12-26/ousted-binance-founder-cz-s-fortune-grew-by-25-billion-in-2023" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">report from Bloomberg</a>, Changpeng Zhao’s financial ascent in 2023 is remarkable, reflecting the dynamic nature of the cryptocurrency industry and the global economic landscape. Despite the challenges and legal proceedings surrounding Binance, Zhao’s wealth trajectory showcases the resilience and financial success that some figures in the crypto space continue to experience.

CZ also agreed to <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/sec-sues-crypto-exchange-binance-and-ceo-zhao/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">plead guilty to violations of US money laundering regulations</a>.
However, the move which CZ described as “the best for the community. Binance, and himself” was an attempt to close the criminal investigations into the crypto exchange and secure the exchange’s continued operations.
Markedly, CZ in his announcement named Richard Teng as Binance’s new CEO effective immediately. According to CZ, Teng will pilot the exchange’s next phase of security, transparency, compliance, and growth.

After exiting his leadership role from the exchange he led to meteoric rise, CZ decided to embark on passive investing in startups focused on Blockchain, Web 3.0, <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/what-is-decentralized-finance-defi/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Decentralized Finance </a>(DeFi), and Biotech. CZ is also available to share his wealth of experience with entrepreneurs in the space.
Interestingly, Zhao remains the largest shareholder of Binance and will be available to the exchange for consultations.
