Unblock Global, an Argentina-based Bitcoin mining company, has secured a groundbreaking $15 million in <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/liquidstack-secures-funding-to-boost-eco-friendly-bitcoin-mining-in-the-u-s/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">funding</a>. This strategic move aims to harness flared gas from Vaca Muerta, the world's second-largest shale gas reserve, to power its Bitcoin mining operations. Co-founder Tomas Ocampo&nbsp; announcing, "We are the second-flared-gas Bitcoin in the world." according to <a href="https://bitcoinnews.com/bitcoin-miner-unblock-global-raises-15m-flared-gas/?ref=onepagecrypto.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin News</a>.
Flared gas, typically a byproduct of oil <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">production</a>, presents environmental challenges. Bitcoin mining, often criticized for its high energy consumption, offers a unique solution by using this otherwise wasted resource. In July, Unblock Global partnered with Crusoe Energy Systems to launch Digital Flare Mitigation (DFM) technology at Vaca Muerta, utilizing associated natural gas to power advanced computing for Bitcoin mining.
Crusoe's technology converts natural gas, usually flared due to logistical challenges, into <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-mining-with-flare-gas-a-green-solution-or-environmental-setback/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">electricity</a>. This not only prevents wasteful gas burning but also fuels modular <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-miners-shift-gears-ai-is-the-new-gold-rush/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data centers</a> for advanced computing, initially for Bitcoin mining and now expanding into artificial intelligence. This shift towards sustainable practices in Bitcoin mining is gaining momentum, with miners increasingly tapping into renewable energy.&nbsp;
