The rapidly surging development around crypto-related products and services attracted several institutions and several nations across the globe in the race to become a crypto hub. Recently, Taiwan also shared its interest in crypto-related products such as Spot Bitcoin Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) and other crypto-related products. The cautious approach of Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission 
According to a recent post by local media, Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) is continuously exploring andstudying crypto-related products and planning to introduce Bitcoin ETF. The FSC cited that due to the price fluctuations of cryptocurrencies globally as a key factor in this cautious approach. 
The FSC stated that it is closely monitoring the global trends in cryptocurrency-related products, especially futures and ETFs. They also highlighted the recent developments by countries and the Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) upcoming review of the <a href="https://news.todayq.com/bitcoin-etf-approval-rumors-sec-and-issuers-engage-in-ongoing-talks/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Spot Bitcoin ETF</a> in the first week of January 2024.&nbsp;
The FSC highlighted its commitment to managing virtual assets based on gradually releasing regulations as the market matures. Additionally, the Federal Reserve’s potential interest rate cuts and the upcoming Bitcoin Halving in April 2024, have contributed to a significant 145% surge in the BTC price this year.

The local media also highlighted that Taiwanese investment banks have also shown a strong interest in introducing similar kinds of cryptocurrency-related products, with a particular focus on Bitcoin ETFs.&nbsp;
However, FSC recognized the existence of cryptocurrency futures products globally, with various exchanges such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Intercontinental Exchange offering futures and options. In the ETF sector, Canada’s Toronto Stock Exchange and others have already listed several spot and futures ETFs.
Despite the growing interest, the FSC remains cautious, citing concerns about the high volatility and speculative nature of cryptocurrencies, as well as potential investor risks. The commission suggested that the first step in managing virtual assets would be through self-regulation, with plans to gradually ease restrictions in the future.
Looking ahead, the FSC mentioned the possibility of exploring “cryptocurrency concept ETFs” for public funds. These could involve investments in cryptocurrency-related software and hardware vendors, providing exposure to the industry without a direct link to cryptocurrency prices.
