Bitcoin transaction fees have significantly decreased after spiking to over $18 last week, now averaging around $5.89 per transaction. This dip in fees contrasts with surging miner revenues, already surpassing October's total earnings, according to <a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-transaction-fees-dip-amid-novembers-surging-miner-revenues/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">bitcoin</a>.
Bitcoin's fluctuating transaction costs reflect the volatile nature of the crypto market. On November 24, 2023, the average cost per Bitcoin transaction was approximately $5.89, a stark drop from the $14.06 average the day before. This change illustrates the rapid shifts in transaction fees within just a week.
The decrease in fees coincides with an increase in Bitcoin miner revenues. November's figures are already higher than October's, with <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-face-sinking-revenues-as-per-terahash-earnings-nosedive-to-new-lows/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">miners earning</a> $945 million, including fees and subsidies. Notably, as of November 25, miners have accumulated $124.98 million from fees alone, nearing the 2023 record of $125.92 million set in May.
Another key factor contributing to the current market situation is the rise in Ordinal inscriptions. Data shows over 300,000 mints daily, with a peak of more than 475,000 inscriptions on November 19. The increased volume of financial transactions and inscriptions has led to a backlog in the mempool, with over 200,000 unconfirmed transactions waiting.
This backlog has a direct impact on fee dynamics. For instance, a “no priority” transaction costs around $1.17, while a “high priority” one is priced at $2.38. These fees are calculated in satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB), a standard metric in the Bitcoin network.
The scenario presents a unique situation for investors and miners alike. While lower transaction fees might seem beneficial for users, they also indicate a shifting landscape in the crypto world.
