Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://twitter.com/bgarlinghouse/status/1724139272884883936" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">recently voiced</a>&nbsp;serious concerns about the growing trend of sophisticated deepfake scam videos on YouTube. In a statement on the X platform, Garlinghouse shed light on a distressing case where old footage from Ripple events was manipulated to push a misleading narrative. “Are you asleep at the wheel again?!” he questioned, directly addressing YouTube for its apparent inaction.
Garlinghouse also urged the public to exercise vigilance and not to blindly trust online content. He stressed the importance of verifying messages, reminding everyone that only official Ripple channels disseminate approved information.
The scam involving the Ripple-affiliated XRP cryptocurrency, which has recently surfaced on social media, utilizes AI technology to convincingly imitate Garlinghouse. These deepfake scams, featuring a voice eerily similar to that of Garlinghouse, falsely promote a fake XRP giveaway.&nbsp;
The scam lures viewers with a promise of doubling their return if they send a minimum of 1,000 XRP. Some astute XRP enthusiasts noted discrepancies in the video’s mouth movements, but the sophisticated nature of the scam underscores a growing trend of AI being used to replicate public figures’ voices.
Despite these challenges, the future of XRP in the cryptocurrency industry remains bright. With increased awareness and vigilance, coupled with Ripple’s ongoing efforts to combat fraud, XRP continues to hold a promising position in the ever-evolving digital finance landscape.
