Notably, the <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">production</a> of Bitcoin decreased by 6.6% year-over-year due to the heightened competition in the mining network. The company's response to these challenges included increasing their Bitcoin mining <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hashrate</a> by approximately 66%, from 2.1 EH/s to 3.5 EH/s.
HIVE's strategy also included cautious financial management and expansion into high-performance computing (HPC) for AI applications. This diversification led to a revenue stream with higher margins than Bitcoin mining, as stated by Frank Holmes, HIVE's Executive Chairman.
The company expressed gratitude to its shareholders and highlighted the scalability of its HPC strategy. HIVE's effective management of the bear market led to a gross operating margin of $4.6 million. The average cost of producing each Bitcoin was $22,639, reflecting a 21.15% increase from the previous quarter.
Despite a net loss of $24.5 million for the quarter, mainly due to accelerated depreciation of ASIC equipment and share-based compensation, HIVE's strategic avoidance of expensive debt and healthy balance sheet position it well for the upcoming <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/heat-waves-and-halving-bitcoin-miners-cash-in-amid-rising-prices/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">halving</a> and future growth.
