The United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has publicly revealed that it has awarded a cumulative sum of $16 Million to individuals who acted as whistleblowers in the current year. This acknowledgment is in appreciation of their roles in aiding successful enforcement actions.
A significant facet of this development is that the bulk of the information furnished by these informants is related to the cryptocurrency sector. CFTC Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero depicted this as an area still grappling with extensive fraud and unlawful practices.
In an official statement issued on October 31, Commissioner Romero emphasized the significant contribution of tips related to cryptocurrency in their enforcement endeavors. Notably, two informants received a collective award of $15 Million in recognition of their crucial roles in assisting the CFTC in achieving successful enforcement actions in September.
