Recently,Bulgaria’s oldest football club, Botev Plovdiv FC, collaborated with Nostr, a decentralized protocol, to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment. Botev Plovdiv FC’s adoption of Bitcoin follows Real Bedford, a United Kingdom-based football club, which was the first to adopt Bitcoin.&nbsp; 
Botev Plovdiv FC has become the second <a href="https://news.todayq.com/prominent-football-club-psv-eindhover-to-accept-full-sponsorship-paid-in-bitcoin/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">football club</a> to do so. Peter McCormack, the chairman of Real Bedford, shared his views on this news:
“It’s cool to see more football clubs adopting the Bitcoin cheat code. Not only will it bring more success to their club, but it will also expand awareness of Bitcoin.”
The purpose of Botev Plovdiv FC’s Bitcoin collaboration with Nostr is to allow their fans to use Bitcoin for peer-to-peer payments in the Bulgarian Parva Liga, both at the club’s fan shop and during matches. The 111-year-old president of Botev Plovdiv FC, Anton Zingarevich, expresses his enthusiasm for this significant move while mentioning the potential of the Lightning network. In a press release, the president stated:
“We foresee Bitcoin payments becoming as ubiquitous as the internet in our daily lives. This integration aligns with our vision and offers our fans and stakeholders unparalleled convenience.”
This collaboration to adopt Bitcoin is only possible because of a Bitcoin payment processor called BTCPay Server, known for its open-source architecture, low merchant fees, and secure infrastructure. The payment hardware was provided by CryptoDesk.bg in collaboration with Bitcoinize.com, which supplied the point-of-sale devices.
After this significant move by Bulgaria’s football club, Nicolas Dorier, the founder of BTCPay Server, highlighted the importance of local Bitcoin adoption, showing commitment to supporting transformative projects like the one in Plovdiv. Botev Plovdiv FC seeing a new era of soccer finance 
Following this successful collaboration for Bitcoin adoption, George Manolov, the Bitcoin director at Botev Plovdiv FC, explained that this Bitcoin adoption opens up several technological, social, and financial opportunities. The club is also excited to introduce these innovations to one of the world’s most beloved sports, aiming to elevate its status as Bulgaria’s oldest football club.
Apart from adopting Bitcoin, Botev Plovdiv FC has also revamped its online presence. They have updated their official website, improved their English social media channels, and joined Nostr, a decentralized platform that provides uncensored social media services.
